Art on Stage, the new workshop series for Family Card members, explores various aspects of the world of stage art, from set design to behind the scenes, and the various professions that animate the theater, through some of the most important artists of the twentieth century.

Alexander Calder’s Work in Progress, which premiered at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome in 1968, summarized thirty years of the U.S. sculptor’s artistic research—from the circus and children’s games to the mobiles—by staging a dynamic and purely visual event. Many twentieth-century artists were united by their desire to experiment with and adapt their work to the theater. Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso’s set designs, Fortunato Depero’s costumes, Jean Cocteau’s librettos, and the Futurist soirées are just some of the topics of this fascinating exploration of art and the theater.
