Setting the Stage

Workshop organized by the teachers and students of the Liceo Artistico Statale M. Guggenheim

In 1923, La Création du monde, a ballet featuring costumes and stage sets designed by Cubist painter Fernand Léger, premiered at the Théâtre des Champs-Elyées in Paris. Léger’s costumes were so rigid that they impeded the dancer’s movements, and blended in with the set in the background creating eye-catching visual effects.
