Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea
Free entrance for members of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and a 10% discount at the bookshop.
Located in a strategic position overlooking the Valle di Susa, Castello di Rivoli is comprised of an imposing Baroque building, part of a grandiose project begun in 1718 by the architect Filippo Juvarra for Vittorio Amedeo II, as well as the ‘Manica Lunga,’ the mid-seventeenth century construction for the picture gallery of Duke Carlo Emanuele I. Resumed at the end of the eighteenth century by Carlo Randoni, the project was never completed. In 1979 the regional government of Piedmont awarded the restoration of the Castle to the architect Andrea Bruno. Since 1984 it has hosted the Contemporary Art Museum. For over 20 years, the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea has distinguished itself as an eminent contemporary art institution in terms of both its permanent collection and international exhibition programme. At the heart of the collection is a core of works and large-scale installations from the Italian Arte Povera movement, brought together with examples of the Italian Transavanguardia, Minimal Art, Body Art and Land Art, to make up what has become the most important contemporary art collection in Italy.
