Guided tour of the “1912–1930 Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale” exhibition

A guided tour of the temporary exhibition at Le Stanze del Vetro, organized by its Education Department.

The temporary exhibition at the Le Stanze del Vetro, curated by Marino Barovier, celebrates the inclusion of Murano glass in Venice Biennale exhibitions between 1912 and 1930 through a carefully chosen selection of 135 works from renowned institutions and major private collections.
During this period, Murano glass progressively carved itself a space at the International Art Exhibition thanks to artists who chose to use this precious material to create their works, as well as to a section of the show displaying decorative arts in the exhibition spaces of the Palazzo dell’Esposizione della Biennale. It was only in 1932 that the construction of a purpose-built pavilion afforded glass and decorative arts their own space in the Venice Giardini.
