The ancient tradition of patternmaking reached its peak in terms of popularity and experimentation with the birth of printing and serial reproduction techniques. Anni Albers, Gio Ponti, Alessandro Mendini, Ettore Sottsass and many other artists made patterns a distinctive feature of their artistic production. During the workshop, children will join a treasure hunt in the streets of Venice and discover some of the recurring urban and architectural elements that make the city so unique. They will then appropriate them and, on the pages of a specially designed notebook, design a unique pattern that captures their perception of the city.
