The event explores the connection between the French fashion designer Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel and the world of art, theatre, and dance. Chanel became closely associated with the Parisian artistic and intellectual scene of her time, forging friendships with artists such as Jean Cocteau, Salvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso. She even declared that “it is artists who have shown me how to be exacting.” The lecture will shed light on Chanel’s friendships and artistic collaborations, revealing how her revolutionary approach to fashion mirrored that of contemporary avant-garde artists.
