Palazzo Labia, today the regional headquarters of Rai, is a baroque palace built in the district of Cannareggio for the Catalan Labia family in the 17th–18th century.
At its heart is the great ballroom designed by Giorgio Massari and decorated with a fresco cycle by Giabattista Tiepolo. The frescoes are some of the finest produced by the Venetian painter and depict scenes from the story of Anthony and Cleopatra. Populated by elegantly dressed characters striking theatrical poses, these are brilliantly complimented by architectural elements in trompe-l'œil designed by Gerolamo Mingozzi-Colonna. The tour grants exclusive access to the ballroom and other rooms of the palazzo, which feature splendid paintings by Palma il Giovane, Giambattista Canal, Placido Costanzi, Agostino Masucci, and many other 18th-century painters.
