When everything goes right a mobile is a piece of poetry that dances with the joy of life and surprises.
In the final event of the lecture series Inside Form: Hepworth, Giacometti, Calder: The Writings and Thoughts of Three Twentieth-Century Sculptors, Giovanna Brambilla explores the vibrant connection between the joyful dynamism and seeming lightness of Alexander Calder’s mobile sculptures and his reflections merging childish stupor and an expert understanding of space and movement.
The lecture will examine how Calder's writings and statements about his art express a conception of sculpture as an entity in perpetual interaction with the surrounding environment, realized through meticulous planning and a deep understanding of materials.
