The 24th Venice Biennale, Peggy Guggenheim and Post-war Art: An International Discourse for Italian Artists
The 24th Venice Biennale, Peggy Guggenheim and Post-war Art: An International Discourse for Italian Artists

By Chiara Bertola, Curator of the contemporary art project Conservare il futuro at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice.

The first post-war Venice Biennale, inaugurated in 1948, was a moment of cultural and artistic ‘rebirth’ for Italy, following two decades of dictatorial regime. The lecture will examine Peggy Guggenheim’s memorable exhibition, which marked an important shift in the modern and contemporary art scene, both in Italy and at an international scale.
