Peggy Guggenheim's Birthday Concert

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection hosts a concert by the trio of Cristina Renzetti, Gabriele Mirabassi, and Roberto Taufi in the evocative sculpture garden of Palazzo Venier dei Leoni.

The musicians will present their new album, Attenzione al tubarone! Il Brasile degli italiani (Egea Music, 2026). Created in collaboration with the Umbria Jazz festival—with which the three musicians have shared years of artistic collaboration and research—the project reflects one of the festival’s defining aims: to conceive of jazz as a crossroads of cultures, traditions, and musical languages. At the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, this dialogue is set in a context where music, like the visual arts, becomes a practice of continual reinterpretation and reinvention.
The program spans a repertoire ranging from migrant folk songs, such as Merica, Merica, to contemporary works such as Ritals (2006) by Gianmaria Testa, and historical translations by Sergio Bardotti of songs by Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, and Vinicius de Moraes. Alongside these, the trio will perform music by some of the most influential Brazilian singer-songwriters, including Adoniran Barbosa, Ary Barroso, Moreira da Silva, and Antônio Carlos Jobim, whose Canta, canta mais (1980) offers the perfect ending to this musical journey.
Voice, guitar, and clarinet create an essential musical texture in which rigorous chamber music intertwines with free improvisation. The result is an intimate listening experience that reveals the profound affinity between Italian and Brazilian culture, brought together by the evocative power of music.
