This year’s traditional concert celebrating Peggy Guggenheim’s birthday features the Accademia Teatro alla Scala String Quartet.

the quartet will play:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
String Quartet No. 14 in G major K.V. 387 “Spring”
The first of six string quartets dedicated to Mozart's friend, composer Franz Joseph Haydn, written between 1782 and 1785 and divided into the following movements: Allegro vivace assai, Minuetto (Allegro), Andante cantabile e Molto allegro.
Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich
String Quartet No. 8, Op. 110
Composed in just three days in July 1960 after Shostakovich joined the Communist Party, the piece is dedicated to the victims of fascism and the war. It is in five movements: Largo, Allegro molto, Allegretto, Largo, e Largo.

  • Participants can visit the temporary exhibition and the permanent collection from 8 pm until the beginning of the concert.
  • Admission is free but advanced booking is required. Places are limited.
  • The event is for members only.
  • The Museum Café will be open from 8 to 9 pm.
  • In case of bad weather, the concert will take place at the Church of the Gesuati on the Zattere.
