Linoleum Printing: The Twentieth-Century Technique Taught at the Bauhaus
Linoleum Printing: The Twentieth-Century Technique Taught at the Bauhaus

Workshop organized by Doppio Fondo

Linoleum printing, a relief printmaking technique in which an image in carved a linoleum surface, was developed in the twentieth century, around one hundred years after linoleum was created by Frederick Walton in 1860. In the 1920s and 1930s, the technique became popular among artists such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and was taught at the Bauhaus. It was especially appreciated for its low cost and the variety of optical effects it afforded. During the workshop, participants will create an optical print using the linoleum printing technique.
