Exhibition curator Flavia Frigeri and Ambra D’Antone, Curatorial Assistant, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, guided members on preview tours of the exhibition Maria Helena Vieira da Silva: Anatomy of Space
The exhibition focuses on a selection of key works in the artist’s oeuvre, exploring the evolution of her abstract forms and optical illusions. Vieira da Silva is linked to Peggy Guggenheim, who included her in the Exhibition by 31 Women in 1943. Her work merges geometric and decorative influences, such as Hispano-Arabic tiles, and explores the connection between abstraction and figuration in urban landscapes that blur reality and imagination. The exhibition traces the artist’s career from the 1930s to the 1980s, highlighting her role in Art Informel and her experiences in Paris and Rio de Janeiro. After Venice, the exhibition will travel to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Fall 2025.
