A morning tour on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore explores two exhibitions, dedicated to contemporary art and the Venetian glass tradition, on view at the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore and Le Stanze del Vetro.

The basilica hosts The Shape of Time, a major retrospective dedicated to sculptor Barry X Ball, who reinterprets old masterpieces using new materials and techniques, merging advanced digital technologies with traditional methods. The works on view are set in dialogue with the architecture and liturgical atmosphere of the basilica, renewing the relationship between art, heritage, and spirituality.
Le Stanze del Vetro presents 1948-1958 Il vetro di Murano e la Biennale di Venezia, an exhibition that explores a crucial decade in the history of Murano glass through its dynamic relationship with the Venice Biennale. Focusing on the period between the reopening of the Biennale following World War II and the late 1950s, the show explores an age marked by reconstruction, economic boom, and the rise of design in popular culture. Over 180 works bring together creations from historic glassworks and emergent workshops, testifying to a period of intense experimentation, renewed energy, and a rich dialogue between tradition and innovation.
