Guided tour of the exhibition "Loris Cecchini. Leaps, Gaps, and Overlapping Diagrams" and of Ca’ Rezzonico

Guided tour of the exhibition dedicated to Loris Cecchini and the permanent collection of Ca’ Rezzonico, with curator Francesca Giubilei and the Education Department of the Musei Civici di Venezia.

Loris Cecchini (b. 1969) is an Italian artist born in Milan. His artistic journey started in the 1980s, when he began to explore and analyze mass culture, commodification, and consumer objects through photography. Cecchini is interested in new media and technology. Drawn to virtual reality and innovative materials, some of his earliest works employed computers and 3D design software. From the late 1990s he suspended his use of digital photography and shifted his focus to the more manual activity of sculpting in rubber. Cecchini’s work explores the relationship between nature and artificiality and urges us to reconsider our understanding of reality and representation, the organific aspect of natural development, and technical-artificial landscapes. From 1998 to 2007, he devoted himself to replicating everyday objects using a variety of materials, including urethane rubber, resins, silicone, and cellulose. Cecchini is one of Italy’s most internationally acclaimed artists of the last decade and has held solo exhibitions in major institutions worldwide, including the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, MoMA PS1, New York, and Shanghai Doulun MoMA, Shanghai. The exhibition at Ca’ Rezzonico showcases a series of modular works integrated with the site’s internal and external exhibition spaces and eighteenth-century frescoes, offering a unique opportunity to experience Cecchini’s art alongside the architecture and holdings of Ca’ Rezzonico, which was refurbished in 2023.
