Guided tour of the exhibition "Janus"

Palazzo Diedo is the Italian headquarters of Berggruen Arts & Culture, a nonprofit foundation established by collector and philanthropist Nicolas Berggruen.

The building was reopened in April 2024 following a two-year refurbishment that brought to light eighteenth- and nineteenth-century frescos and stuccos. The exhibition spaces host eleven site-specific works by internationally renowned artists, including Urs Fischer, Piero Golia, Carster Höller, Ibrahim Mahama, Mariko Mori, Sterling Ruby, Jim Shaw, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Aya Takano, Lee Ufan, and Liu Wei. The artists’ interventions, which make up the exhibition Janus, were designed to create a dialogue with the architecture and history of Palazzo Diedo and are inspired by the traditional professions of the Venetian Lagoon, such as fresco painting, Murano glassmaking, luxury textile production, and traditional Venetian flooring. The title of the exhibition expresses the foundation’s intention to look to the future with an eye on the past.
