A two-part tour allows visitors to experience the grandeur of the the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum and learn about the historical and scientific value of the palace's archives.
The first part of the tour will explore the museum of Palazzo Mocenigo, a place brimming with history that offers a fascinating glimpse into eighteenth-century Venice. This aristocratic residence in the heart of Venice, once home to the noble Mocenigo family, now houses an extraordinary collection of textiles, garments, and accessories that chronicle the evolution of Venetian fashion and costume over the centuries.
The second part of the tour, led by Scientific Director Chiara Squarcina, will take place in the Study Center for the History of Textiles and Costume. Founded in 1985, the center boasts a specialized library dedicated to the history of textiles and costume, a vital resource for scholars, with approximately 20,000 volumes, including ancient editions and a vast collection of periodicals spanning from the late eighteenth century to the present day. The collection of fashion illustrations, comprising around 13,000 pieces, offering a unique iconographic overview of Venetian fashion through the ages, is of particular value. The center also preserves a rich collection of ancient textiles with over 1,300 items, including Coptic artifacts and fabrics dating from the fourteenth to the nineteenth centuries, as well as modern textiles from major Italian manufacturers of the early twentieth century.
The visit, led by Chiara Squarcina, provides an exclusive opportunity to delve into the history of costumes and textiles, as well as the important conservation and research carried out by this extraordinary institution.
