“What does it mean to be an ‘agent of change’?
This is the main point of reflection sought by Ghanaian-Scottish curator Lesley Lokko for the 18th Architecture Biennale. The imagination is also a guiding force of the exhibition since, according to the curator, creating a better future requires imagining it first. Thus, notions of change and imagination permeate the show, which develops from the Central Pavilion in the Giardini on to the Arsenale complex. Over half of the participating studios are based in Africa or the African Diaspora, as it is Lokko’s intent to analyze various urgent contemporary issues through this new and different lens.
