Guided after-hours tour of the "Surrealism and Magic: Enchanted Modernity " exhibition

The temporary exhibition, curated by Gražina Subelyė, Associate Curator of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, is the first international show to examine the Surrealists’ interest in magic, esotericism, myth and the occult. Presenting about sixty works from over forty large international institutions and private collections, the exhibition gives a wide and extensive view of the Surrealist movement, and analyzes the numerous ways in which magic and the occult shaped its development. This is traced through numerous masterpieces, from the metaphysical painting of Giorgio de Chirico, to Max Ernst’s iconic Attirement of the Bride of 1940, and the hidden imaginary landscapes found in the late works of Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo.
