Evening Guided Tour of Palazzo Ducale with Art Historian Franca Lugato

During this special event, art historian Franca Lugato guides members on a tour of Palazzo Ducale, immersed in an evocative nocturnal atmosphere.

Palazzo Ducale is one of the most iconic symbols of Venice, an emblem of the political and social history of the Serene Republic and a place that continues to astonish visitors with its stunning gothic architecture. Facing the San Marco basin, the palazzo was for centuries the seat of the Doge and the republic main governing bodies, the heart of Venetian power and center of city’s institutional life. Its construction began in the ninth century, when it was erected as a fortified structure next to the St. Mark’s Basilica. Over time the building was enlarged, transformed, and enriched according to taste of different eras, merging and synthesizing gothic, renaissance, and mannerist elements into a architectural marvel. After the fall of the republic in 1797, the palazzo housed administrative offices and cultural institutions, until it eventually became part of the Music Civici di Venezia.
The tour traces the history of the building through its most important spaces, offering insights into the political, institutional, and cultural life of the Serenissima and the transformations that shaped it over the centuries.
