Double Meaning: Man Ray and “Silhouette”

A Double Meaning event centered on Man Ray that explores the graphic and flattened style of some of his works, such as Silhouette of 1915, a preparatory study for a painting of the same year.

The ballet dancers in Silhouette are figures are reduced to two-dimensional schematic forms, devoid of anatomical detail. The event centers on the simplification and sequential repetition of forms. Participants will engage in a tactile exploration of the work and take part in a sculpture workshop led by blind artist Felice Tagliaferri.
