The first event of the Double Meaning workshop series dedicated to sculpture focuses on Marino Marini, the Tuscan artist born in 1901.
In his sculpture series Pomona, Marini interpreted the classical subject of the female nude from a modern perspective, attempting to represent a mythical image in a contemporary context.
His work Pomona (1945), on view at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, is an emblematic example of his efforts to reduce sculpture to its most essential formal elements.
The event offers participants the opportunity to touch Marino Marini’s original sculpture and a selection of other sculptures and reproductions of paintings. Following this, a workshop led by blind artist Felice Tagliaferri guides participants to explore a sculpture technique that will reinforce a mental image of Pomona.
Double Meaning events are free, but booking is required.
