The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation offers a distinctive fellowship program at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, inviting university students and recent graduates in art, art history, museum studies, and related disciplines to immerse themselves in the daily life of one of Europe’s leading museums of modern art.
The Fellowship Program provides a unique opportunity for young people pursuing a career in the arts sector to deepen their knowledge of twentieth-century art, develop valuable transferable skills, and connect with a welcoming, international community.
What does the Fellowship Program offer?
- Immersion in museum life: Involvement in tasks such as stewarding, delivering talks on Peggy Guggenheim’s life, the collection, and temporary exhibitions. Fellows may have the opportunity to lead guided tours or get involved in activities for school groups, as well as support creative workshops and family programs.
- Cross-departmental collaboration: Thanks to the program’s non-departmental nature, fellows gain an overview of museum activities by supporting front-facing teams such as Visitor Services and Education. There may also be opportunities to contribute to projects within other departments.
- Dedicated time for study and research: Access the museum’s library and resources to explore the collection in depth, develop personal academic interests, prepare presentations, and reflect on their roles as emerging museum professionals. At the end of the program, each fellow is invited to deliver a seminar, offering space to reflect on their experience with peers and evolving interests in the arts and heritage field.
- Structured learning and cultural visits: Participation in a program of seminars, meetings with staff, and guided visits to cultural sites in Venice and the surrounding area to deepen understanding of museum practice and the city’s rich artistic landscape.
- Skill development and professional growth: Develop skills in public engagement, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration while reflecting critically on cultural heritage and museum work.
- Join an international network: Become part of an international community, connect with young individuals from around the world and deepen your understanding of twentieth-century art within an extraordinary setting.
