Tracing the Program’s History
Launched in 1980 as an opportunity for young adults to contribute during the formative years of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, this experience has since evolved into the International Fellowship Program — a competitive, experiential learning opportunity for those aspiring to a career in the arts.
Overseen by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, with the daily operations and monthly activities of the group managed by the Education Department of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, it continues to offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity for aspiring arts professionals.
Each year, the program draws exceptional individuals from across the globe and plays a vital role in shaping careers in museums, education, development, and the wider cultural field.
The Alumni Society
Since its founding, the Alumni Society has brought together participants from over four decades, fostering a vibrant community through networking, events, and a shared sense of history. Every two years, the Society gathers in Venice for “Homecoming,” a special evening at the museum during the opening week of the Art Biennale, offering a meaningful chance to reconnect and celebrate their collective journey.
The Alumni Society continues to grow, celebrating the impact of a program that has supported thousands of arts and culture professionals worldwide.
