David Smith
1963
David Smith is considered among America’s greatest twentieth-century sculptors, and his work after World War II is associated with American Abstract Expressionism, of which he was the leading exponent in sculpture. This work, in metallic enamel sprayed onto paper over stencils, is strongly related to Smith’s late sculpture, an example of which can be seen in the Nasher Sculpture Garden.
