World Trade Center: past, present, future combined photographs of Ground Zero by the noted American photographer Joel Meyerowitz with design proposals for the new World Trade Center, wich had been exhibited at the Max Protetch Gallery in New York in March 2002. The latter included drawings, models and digital installations by noted group of architects including Steven Holl, Zaha Hadid, Morphosis, Frei Otto, Vito Acconci, Inigo Mangliano-Ovalle.
"By linking the presentation of these design proposals with Joel Meyerowitz's searing and powerful photographs of the destroyed Twin Towers, the Department of State hopes to further stimulate the already lively international conversation that is taking place among architects, theorists, urban planners, and others about the future of this hallowed site," commented Robert Ivy, Commissioner. He added: "In the shifting light of lower Manhattan, Joel Meyerowitz unearthed beauty and courage amid the loss. Together with the collective works from the Max Protetch Gallery, this exhibition offers potential architecture for this real place and will spark the debate for a future New York."
