tactile guggenheim in collaboration with Associazione BarchettaBlu barchetta blu

Kids Days in September 2012 will be dedicated to the discovery of our sense of touch. After a short introduction to the Braille alphabet and with help at hand from our staff, children will have the chance to translate a painting from the collection into a tactile work.

COLORS OF PAPER

Read through touch with your hands. Hélion, "Balance"

Shapes and surfaces will be reinterpreted and made recognizable by treating the surface of coloured paper by scratching, hammering, wrinkling and other means of manipulation. Through these techniques, colour will assume a tactile significance becoming more than a purely visual experience of colour association and recognition. By learning or ‘seeing’ using the hands in tactile exploration, meaning shall be derived through the physical touching of the paper. The activity will also be the starting point for introducing the Braille alphabet and the tactile reading of a written text, passing from image/sign to word and vice versa.

CLOTH GEOMETRY

Tactile reading of an art work. van Doesburg, "Counter-Composition XIII"

During the workshop participants will have the opportunity to translate two-dimensional coloured geometric shapes to a three-dimensional tactile work. This will enable them, through touch, to explore and ‘read’ with their hands thanks to the use of different materials, textures, and surfaces. The activity will also be the starting point for introducing the Braille alphabet and the tactile reading of a written text, passing from image/sign to word and vice versa.

UP & DOWN
Read the sea with your hands. Mondrian, "Ocean 5"

In this workshop, children will be guided in the transformation of signs from two-dimensional surfaces to the three-dimensional in order to render an imitation of the movement of waves. Through a decoding of the forms designed, a new interpretation will be developed and the use of space in the artwork explored. Concepts such as forward/backward, up/down and right/left will be reformulated with materials of different thicknesses that evoke the feeling of the alternation of ocean waves. The activity will also be the starting point for introducing the Braille alphabet and the tactile reading of a written text, passing from image/sign to word and vice versa.
29 and 30 September 2012, at 11am and 3pm
WHITE ON WHITE

From the paper to form...explorations with the hands. Capogrossi

Four hands-on workshops organized on the occasion of Families Festival and the opening of the exhibition Capogrossi. A retrospective. Starting with a blank sheet of paper, participants will arrive at three-dimensional symbols typical of the artistic production of Capogrossi. Through the technique of embossing the sheet of paper on a cardboard matrix, very similar to the process of dry printing, forms with depth will be produced white on white, which will become ‘readable’ through touch. The activity will also be the starting point for introducing the Braille alphabet and the tactile reading of a written text, passing from image/sign to word and vice versa.
