CATALOGUE
Since 2005, nearly all minor document sources have been digitally catalogued, thanks above all to a contribution from the Gladis Krieble Delmas Foundation.
Thanks to a contribution from the Regione del Veneto, a cataloguing project of primary resources from the Sistema Bibliotecario Nazionale was launched in April of 2007 and will be conclude in 2008 with the incorporation into the main catalogue of open-shelf volumes as well as volumes in storage, namely from the collection of rare books and pamphlets.
The catalogue is already available on line at:
www.sbn.it for the national catalogue
http://sbn.iuav.it for the collective catalogue of libraries of Polo Veneziano SBN
COLLECTIONS
The library consists of approximately 8,000 volumes of modern and contemporary art books consisting of monographs, general topics books, exhibition catalogues, museum collection catalogues, modern art theory and criticism, art periodicals, videos, and slides. Noteworthy books in particular are:
- Catalogues of exhibitions held at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (from 1985 to the present)
- Catalogues from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (from 1948 to the present) - Catalogues from the Venice Biennale (from 1895 to the present)
The library also manages an electronic photography archive, the primary focus of which is the figure of Peggy Guggenheim. It consists of approximately 850 photos and 400 negatives. The material has furthermore been catalogued with supplemental information.
HISTORY
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection library was born via the inheritance of some thousands of books―primarily exhibition catalogues― from Peggy Guggenheim herself. Since then, the books and resources have grown incessantly thanks to ongoing bibliographical exchange and donations from national and international organizations. While it is always a crucial instrument to staff in preparation for temporary exhibits, the library also provides a fundamental supplement to students from around the world participating in the Internship Program.
Moreover, students from all around the world come to use the library to research for their bachelor’s theses that are focused on the museum or Peggy Guggenheim herself.
